Contextual Studies

What is Contextual Studies? To my understand and my point of view, it is a subject that requires us to understand something and do more research on it. It requires us to go deeper into the matter so that we will understand more and learn more. This subject is a very easy going course as it only requires us to do research and give our opinions on the matter and also learn new things throughout the journey. Here is the definition that is given by Google.

Contextual learning is based on a constructivist theory of teaching and learning. Learning takes place when teachers are able to present information in a way that students are able to construct meaning based on their own experiences. Contextual learning experiences include internships, service learning, and study abroad programs, among others.

Contextual learning has the following characteristics:

- emphasizing problem-solving - recognizing that teaching and learning need to occur in multiple contexts - assisting students in learning how to monitor their learning and thereby become self-regulated learners - anchoring teaching in the diverse life context of students - encouraging students to learn from each other - employing authentic assessment
