Exercise

You See What You See

This is the first exercise our lecturer, Miss Tan told us to do. She gave us a title 'You See What You See'.  We have to take pictures of environments or objects that are interesting. Here are the pictures that I have taken.

Point & Line

This is the actual exercise that was needed to be done. After taking the pictures, Miss Tan filtered them and chose 3 pictures out of all of the pictures. The main idea of the pictures is that they have points and lines for me to do my exercise. The exercise is separated into 3 parts. The first part is point. I have to use tailor nails and hammer to pinpoint the points on the picture. The next part is line. For this, I first used a tailor nail and hammer to make the holes and then I used sewing method to make the lines using needle and thread. The last part is point and line. For this one, first, we pinpoint the points using tailor nails and hammer then using the thread to connect the lines. Here are the finished work with the original pictures.

Project 1

Plane

Project 1

For the starting of project 1, Miss Tan told us to take pictures which include ceilings, walls and floors. This is to let us understand and what term to use when there is a need to label such pictures. Here are the pictures.

Project 1

Plan & Void

This exercise is called plan and void. Miss Tan let us made there using modelling card. The plan model is to let us understand the different angle of the card can create different feeling and meaning to the plan. The void model is made using squared modelling board cut outs. Here are the pictures of the final model.

Project 1

Shade & Shadow

This exercise is to let us know the different angle of light with produce different shade and shadow. Here are the pictures.

Project 1

Ancient Architecture Scale

This exercise is about ancient architecture scale. The ancient buildings were chosen by Miss Tan and we were divided into groups to complete this exercise. Here are the pictures we researched.

Project 1

Form & Scale

This exercise is about form and scale of the building that we researched. We used different shapes and size of handmade blocks by everyone to mimic the building. We took pictures of the building with its shadow and also with different human size cut outs. Here are the pictures.

Project 1

Rhythm & Repetition

This exercise I used 10 different patterns to make it. The patterns made are the methods learnt from previous exercises. This exercise also allows colour to be added. Here are the pictures.

Project 2

Plan

This is the start of another project. The first exercise is to draw a plan using only one type of shapes. I chose a trapezium. After drawing the layout, the darker parts are the parts to be made into walls. Here are the pictures.

Project 2

Project 2

Shade & Shadow

After doing the model out, here are some pictures of it with its shadow. The different angle of the model gives different shadows. Here are the pictures.

Project 2

Plan ( Top View )

This plan is a 3D plan. After I have done the first model with modelling card, Miss Tan told us to make it into a building like model. All the parts must be joined together and without the support of the modelling card in the middle. These are the pictures.

Project 2

Texture & Colour

The texture and colour concept I have chosen is stars. The dark sky and the stars compliment well together. The dark sky gives the feeling of the night time when people walk into the pavilion. In the city, there are not many places you can enjoy a beautiful scenery of a starry night.

Project 2

Human Scale

This exercise is to use a different human scale to compare with the size of the model. The different human scale has a different meaning compared to the size of the model. These are the pictures.

Project 3

Project 3

Mood Board / Conceptual Board

These are the concept for my final model. They are pavilion designs from the internet. There are also some pictures of the pattern I want to put on my model. Here are the pictures.

Project 3

Sketches

These are the sketches for my final model. There are measurements and designs that are recorded. Here are the pictures.

Project 3

Shade & Shadow

These are the shade and shadow for my final model. The shadow shows how the pavilion going to look at night. Here are the pictures.

Project 3

Human Scale

The size of the people shows that the model is in actual size. As shown in the pictures, the pavilion is quite high. This is to let people walking through have a realistic feel of the starry night sky.

Project 3

Presentation Board

This is the presentation board I made for my presentation for my final model. Here are some pictures.

Project 3

Final Model

These are my final model pictures. They are different views of my model. This model was resized from A5 to A3 and some parts were made using different materials such as perspex, modelling card, modelling board and thread. Here are the pictures with different point of views.

Sketchbook

Every design student will have a sketchbook to record their process. This is my sketchbook for this course.
